The New Cool.

Ed Ruscha

The art form has long been given up for dead, but just because New York no longer dominates the scene doesn't mean it's failing. Young artists in L.A. help it thrive. ......

Painting gets a broader brush

An interesting piece about the history of painting in L.A, the beginning of the "Cool School, L.A.'s beginning as a new art capital and its relation to the end of the NY scene.

L.A. stories

A car drove through our neighbor's store front the other day and freaked everyone out, but my favorite recent HVW8 L.A. Gallery car crash madness was a couple months ago there was a loud bang outside; somehow this guy drove his car straight into a tree across the street without a soul in site (it was about 12am). Luckily he was fine .... not so much can be said for the car or tree. It was like a TJ hooker episode.

Respect R.I.P.

I just showed up at the Studio and this is what I saw. Our oh so smart neighbour invited a local unnamed crew (they didn't want to say but I think it was VSP) to paint his wall, in so doing they went over our piece. When I asked them why they covered our piece, "rifle" said that our piece "wasn't a piece, it was a painting", so I guess it didn't deserve the respect. Then on top of that "rifle" asked me "who are those guys anyway? some jazz dudes?" ... the guy he covered was Kieth Haring, one of the founding Graffiti and POP cultures forefathers. The other 2 figures are/were Leonard Cohen and Donny Hathaway. It was a representation of Canadian culture, LA soul and Pop history. R.I.P.
